For those of us who do our own laundry, a washing machine is more of a necessity than a convenience – and having a dependable device that frees up the time that would have been spent on soaking, scrubbing, and drying clothes by hand seems more like a luxury when you find yourself regretting the purchase of a low-cost mechanism. To help you find the most trustworthy workhorse without the cost of personal experience, we assembled Malaysia’s top five brands of washing machines in 2016-2017 in the following list.

With a focus on energy efficiency and user-friendliness, Electrolux’s EWW14113 front-loading washer-dryer combination is capable of delivering an effective deep clean even at the low temperature of 30° Celsius, which saves the user up to 75 percent of the energy required by previous models. This device has a significant maximum wash capacity of 11kg (7kg dry) and includes a number of innovative features making it more versatile for the casual user: the Load Sensor™ automatically detects a load of laundry’s weight and determines the most efficient washing time, as well as the amounts of water and detergent; the AddCloth™ feature provides additional convenience by enabling one to temporarily suspend the machine’s operations and add additional clothing to the load.

The unique design of Hitachi’s premier washer-dryer, the BD-W1500, indicates the level of engineering that went into this device: space-age anti-vibration systems to balance silent operation with a high-torque rotation of the drum, and an array of sensors to dynamically measure and adjust load distribution, water level, temperature, foam density, drum rotation, and vibration levels to provide optimum cleaning of heavy or light fabrics. The drum of the BD-W1500 is specifically designed to be cleaned as water passes through it, its robust shape enabling a maximum wash capacity of 10.5kg (7kg dry).

The result of Panasonic’s intensive consumer studies – the Cuble washer-dryer combination introduces the ActiveFoam system, a high-speed wash programme that reduces the time investment for a 10kg load of clothing to a mere 34 minutes. The Cuble also provides a number of sensible considerations for the sake of ergonomics in its design: a 42cm wide drum opening located 20cm higher than normal and tilted upwards for easy access, along with a top-mounted LED touch panel.

The behemoth that is Samsung’s WR24M9940KV, is also their most versatile offering in the realm of washer-dryer combinations – with a maximum wash capacity of 21kg in wet clothing (12kg for the dryer). Unlike other washer-dryer combinations, this device provides the option of loading clothes from the front or the top, with an additional portal on the front face for adding clothing while the machine is in the midst of a wash. Like many of Samsung’s other washers, the FlexWash WR24M9940KV utilizes Samsung’s EcoBubble technology to perform energy-efficient washes with cold water, and Samsung’s proprietary operating system (Tizen) to provide remote capability, in conjunction with Samsung’s Smart Home app to affect operations from a mobile device.

With its load weight and balance sensors helping to dynamically alter rotational speed and redistribute clothing in the drum, the ESVD900 from Sharp is not just equipped with a host of smart features – it provides the widest drum opening among all the offerings listed here, with the diamater of the circular mouth measuring 44cm. The ESVD900 is also capable of delivering the fastest wash of all the washing machines listed here, with a full wash cycle for a 2kg load of dry cloth clocking in at just 12 minutes.
